Fairy Moon Dreamer ~ Luna Agate and Amethyst CZ Fine Silver Fantasy Landscape Statement Necklace

Imagine a fantasy world where the full moon fills the sky. A large luna agate in shades of purple, lavender and periwinkle blue is the centerpiece of this statement necklace, like an enormous full moon on the horizon, framed by a thoughtful fairy sitting beneath the branches of a tree. The fairy moon dreamer contemplates the mysterious purple orb that glows from within the tangle of the tree's twisted roots. What could she be thinking? What could she be wishing for? This moon dreaming fairy's story could be yours to dream about, and yours to tell.

I fell in love with this luna agate cabochon years ago, and I had it in my collection ever since, until finally I imagined just the right setting in a class taught by jewelry artist Holly Gage. I wanted the setting to be a dimensional illustration of a fairytale scene in which a full moon was rising on the horizon in the woods. To create this piece, I first sculpted the fairy out of polymer clay in order to make a silicone mold for my fairy figurine. Then I created the framework out of more precious metal clay, in which I set the amethyst purple cubic zirconia cabochon and surrounded it by sculpting the roots of the tree. The piece was then fired in the kiln, leaving behind only 99.9% fine silver.

I hand carved the tube-shaped bail with wood grain and knots to resemble a hollow log, and the faceted amethyst beads are a wonderful match to the purple in the luna agate and the amethyst-colored CZ. Dapped and antiqued sterling silver chain finishes this unique piece, and I created a hand forged swan neck hook and eye clasp.

The pendant piece is approximately 2 1/2 inches tall and 2 inches wide, fairly large, as you can also see from the video of this piece in my hand. The chain is connected to loops on a wire that extends through the tube, making the length of the necklace abut 18 1/2 inches long. The luna agate is reverse set in a bezel on the back of the frame.
